I want to let y’all in on a little secret...9 out of 10 women who are plus size do not wish to be plus sized.
Every women who walks through our door is on her own special journey that we may or may not ever be told about. Take myself for instance, my thyroid is basically dead and I take a huge dose of meds every day to try and mimic the hormones my thyroid is suppose to produce. Can I lose weight? Yes. Is it extremely harder than a person without medical issues? Of course. But being overweight is hard. It is hard to hear not so kind things. It is hard to have thin family members or friends make remarks about your size. It is hard to hear what your doctor has to say when you step on that scale. It is hard to go to a restaurant when you see a booth and not chairs. It is hard to have to sit things out because you are scared you wont fit or you exceed the weight limit. It is hard to look back on years past when you thought you were “fat” and realize that is probably the closest to skinny that you will ever be...but know what is harder? Finally waking up one day and realizing that you are the one who allowed fear to control you. “What are you talking about, Erica?” I’m saying that every day we hear women come out of the dressing room and criticize at least one thing about their body and make themselves seem unworthy enough to wear certain things (this applies to ALL women of ALL sizes too) I am here to tell you that chances are, the one thing you beat yourself up over about your body, goes unnoticed by anyone other than yourself. Read that again. You are your absolute worst critic. I know that sounds so cliche, but it is so true!
We as women, as mothers, as friends, as role models, have to stop tearing ourselves down to try and fit the mold that we have made up in our own minds. You can love the current skin you are in no matter what phase of your journey you are on. So many of us are constantly going through transitions and trials of weight-loss or trying to find our happy medium and think “oh, i’ll wear a tank top when I drop 20lbs.” (I’m guilty) or “i’ll wear shorts when my thighs no longer touch”. (My thighs will never “not” touch) There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with learning to love yourself through it all...and that is exactly what I challenge you all to do.
Make it your daily mantra to try a little harder to NOT be so hard on yourselves and for every one thing negative you say about yourself or to yourself, you also say 3 positive things.
You are a child of God. You are beautiful. You are loved. You are worthy. If at anytime you need reassurance, just come on by LLB and pop a squat on a couch and we can talk it out❤️
